Monica Macansantos is a fiction writer, essayist, and poet from the Philippines. She was a James A. Michener Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her MFA in Writing, and also holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. Her work has appeared in failbetter, The Masters Review, Another Chicago Magazine, TAYO (Best American Essays Notable), and Women’s Studies Quarterly, among other places. She has been awarded residencies at Hedgebrook (2014) and at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (2012 and 2019). She has recently completed a novel and story collection, and is at work on a new story collection and an essay collection.
